My first trip to Nepal was to trek the Annapurna Circuit. Little did I know that the Nepal I saw then was not the real Nepal but the commercial aspect created by the tourist industry. A couple years later on my second trip I was introduced to CCODER and the real Nepal. Who else could show you their country, the mountains, villages and religious sites and introduce you to the Nepali people like CCODER? What outside trekking agencies can guide you along the ancient pathways linking villages, who know the language and customs, who involve local villagers to welcome you to share their food, music and songs and who give back a percentage of their profits to the villagers like CCODER and its trekking agency Social Journeys? Participating in community tourism to experience this real Nepal was much more rewarding than just being a casual tourist. CCODER and Social Journeys provided me with the experiences of a life time, and I look forward to returning to visit with the many friends I made and work with them to help accomplish their mission of poverty alleviation through self sufficiency.
